May 9, 2019– Mary Greeley News – Matthew Stuart Hatfield, 39, slipped away from his family and friends on May 7, 2019.
Matt was the doting father of Athena and devoted husband of Cirris. A graduate of Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy of the Law and a minor in Geology and a Juris Doctorate from Saint Louis University School of Law.
He was a brilliant legal mind and servant of his fellow man. He served as staff attorney to Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge David Buckingham for two years, opened his own law practice with his wife, Cirris – Hatfield Law Firm, PLLC. From the time they met, Matt and Cirris desired to work together and open a law practice to help and serve members their community practicing a diverse cross section of civil law.
Matt also served his community as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for nine years. While there were many goals that Matt did not survive to accomplish, he was very proud of his family and the charity Athena’s Angels, which he created to aid children in Western Kentucky who are born with no or limited vision, after his daughter was born with the same.
Matt was an avid supporter of Playhouse in the Park and served briefly, due to his illness, on the Board of the United Way.
Matt is preceded in death by his father, Dr. Dan Hatfield and is survived by his wife Cirris and daughter Athena and mother Dr. Stephanie Hatfield and brother Dr. Eric Hatfield. A farewell service is planned for 3 PM, Saturday,
May 11, 2019 at Imes Funeral Home and Crematory, downtown Murray.
