Jan. 8, 2019– Mary Greeley News – President Donald Trump will address the nation Tuesday night, but it remains unclear if it will be on network television.
Trump will deliver the speech at 7 p.m. MST. As of right now, it will air on ABC, NBC and CBS, per CNN’s Brian Stelter.
He will focus his speech primarily on immigration, according to multiple reports.
Trump confirmed the speech on Twitter Monday afternoon:
I am pleased to inform you that I will Address the Nation on the Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our Southern Border. Tuesday night at 9:00 P.M. Eastern.

Bigger picture: Trump plans to visit the U.S.-Mexico border later in the week as part of his effort to build a border wall, which has been the main part of his negotiations with Democrats over the partial government shutdown, The New York Times reports.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Trump’s plans to travel to the border on Thursday.
President @realDonaldTrump will travel to the Southern border on Thursday to meet with those on the frontlines of the national security and humanitarian crisis. More details will be announced soon.

Network controversy: CNN’s Brian Stelter reported that networks don’t automatically accept presidential requests. ABC, NBC and CBS all said they will air the speech with wall-to-wall coverage.
Five hours since Trump announced his prime time address, and CBS is the only broadcaster that has committed to carrying it. The others are still deliberating. Updated story here https://t.co/ttRKY7xVWG

CNN, NBC and CBS all say that they'll carry the Democratic response to Trump live tonight. My impression is that the other major networks will do the same. But some of the details are still being worked out.

History: In 2014, all four major networks refused then-President Barack Obama’s request to air an address on proposed executive actions about immigration, The Washington Post reported.
Another speech: We might see Trump speak to the nation again this month.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued an invitation to Trump to deliver the State of the Union later this month, CNN reports.
Pelosi issued the letter a few hours after her election as speaker.
“In the spirit of our Constitution, I invite you to deliver your State of the Union address before a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, in the House Chamber,” the letter read.
