Company advocates for gay marriage in Australia
Ice cream giant Ben & Jerry’s declared “love comes in all flavors” Thursday, banning Australian customers from ordering two scoops of the same flavor until the country legalizes same-sex marriage.
According to NBC News, this is another opportunity for the Vermont-based company to address socially conscious issues. In the past, the company has led advocacy campaigns from combating climate change to promoting the ethical treatment of animals.
The new “no-same-flavor” rule proves symbolic, as the Senate rejected a national referendum to approve same-sex marriage in November.
“At Ben & Jerry’s we love love, and we think most Australians do too,” a statement issued by the company said. “More Australians than ever before believe everyone show have the right to love who they love — and marry them too, if that’s what makes you happy. Let’s make it happen!”
