March 5, 2016 – If you’re one of those who is vowing to move to Canada if Donald Trump wins the White House – and apparently there’s some interest along those lines – there’s one place you should check out.
Cape Breton, an island about the size of the Hawaiian Big Island located just off the coast of Maine, is touting itself as the relocation destination for those fleeing a Trump presidency.
“Don’t wait until Donald Trump is elected president to find somewhere else to live! Start now, that way, on election day, you just hop on a bus to start your new life in Cape Breton, where women can get abortions, Muslim people can roam freely, and the only ‘walls’ are holding up the roofs of our extremely affordable houses,” the island’s website noted last week.
In addition to its housing options, the website touts the island’s university, Celtic festival week and burgeoning technology industry. Moving to the island will require someone to go through Canada’s immigration process, which the website optimistically notes is “much less complex” than it used to be.
The website’s organizers said they created the site because of the island’s shrinking population and said the Trump offer is mainly a way to grab people’s attention.
“The truth is, we welcome all, no matter who you support, be it Democrat, Republican or Donald Trump,” the website notes.
