Climatic warfare would be a game changer as superpowers burn through billions to the world develop futuristic ultimate weapons to wage war.
Tanks could be frozen, warships left sailing blind in icy fog and fighter planes pummeled by golf-ball sized hailstones by a devastating weapons system designed to take total control.
Proposals for such a weapons system have been laid out to the US Air Force, and experts believe the weather-changing device is already battle-ready, Daily Star Online can reveal.
Research papers submitted to the US Air Force detail plans to “own the weather by 2025” – proposing the weapons system could be as revolutionary as nukes.
The concept taken to the extreme could cause hurricanes, tornados, snowstorms, droughts and flood – with warnings it could have the power to “kill a nation”.
Penned by three US colonels, and four majors, the document states the commanders make the case for weather modification promising it would allow the Pentagon “complete dominance”.
The report reads: “A global, precise, real-time, robust, systematic weather-modification capability would provide war-fighting commander in chiefs with a powerful force multiplier to achieve military objectives.”
Multiple scientific theories lay out how weather modification would work – most them achieved by using planes, missiles or artillery shells to introduce chemicals, energy or nanomachines into the clouds and upper atmosphere.
These proposals were laid out as part of the Air Force 2025 initiative, researching new weapons and means of battlefield dominance for the next decade.
Professor Michel Chossudovsky, president of the Centre for Research on Globalization, described the possibility of a weather modifying device as the “ultimate weapon of mass destruction”.
He warned the US is already well underway with its development of super weapons to modify the weather, stating: “The US military has developed advanced capabilities that enable it selectively to alter weather patterns.”
Tactical uses of weather weapons could be used to severe enemy supply lines with droughts or rainstorms, or to take total control of the battlefield.
Weather modification has been banned by the Geneva Convention, with strict rules declaring environment altering weapons used “as a means of destruction, damage or injury to another state party” are prohibited.
US forces have used weather warfare before, rolling out the highly classified Operation Popeye during the Vietnam War.
Planes dumped chemical cocktails into clouds to trigger monsoons over the Ho Chi Minh trail in a bid to slow down the Vietcong.
